Student Wellbeing
School is about far more than learning Maths and English; it’s a place where young people grow into well-rounded individuals. At St Edmund’s College, a strong focus has always been placed on shaping the ‘Eddies Man’ and guiding students to embody the College motto, “Possunt Quia Posse Videntur” (They can because they see they can). But what does this look like in practice?
The College’s Student Services team plans significant events, days and weeks throughout the year as part of a long-term approach to help students live out this motto. These initiatives encourage students to reflect, develop positive habits and attitudes, and prepare to step into the world with compassion, respect, trust, dignity, kindness, and solid social and emotional wellbeing.
The Student Formation program extends well beyond traditional pastoral care. It prioritises the wellbeing of every student through curriculum experiences centred on men’s health, digital responsibility, positive relationships, leadership, and practical skills for life. Through both structured and informal formation opportunities, the College aims to create an environment where students feel supported, valued and confident.
The Student Formation program offers a wide variety of activities, workshops and seminars for students from Years 5 to 12, including:
- Leadership camps and retreats
- Respectful Relationships programs and collaborative seminars with nearby girls’ schools
- Workshops on resilience, friendships, drug and alcohol awareness, sexuality education and consent, digital citizenship, and more
- Wellbeing initiatives, including Mental Wellbeing Week
- Inter-house competitions
In the spirit of reconciliation, St Edmund’s College acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
