The Rite Journey

The Rite Journey is a year-long program that empowers students and helps them to develop into Respectful, Responsive, Resilient and Reflective young men.

The Rite Journey is a Rite of Passage program delivered in schools across Australia and internationally. Developed by educator Andrew Lines, the program is designed to support parents and carers in guiding young men on their journey toward adulthood.

Rooted in the structure of the Hero’s Journey and inspired by Van Gennep’s three stages of Rites of Passage—Separation, Transformation, and Reincorporation—the program provides a meaningful framework for personal growth and reflection.

At Eddies, The Rite Journey is a core part of the Year 10 curriculum. Each student is supported by a teacher mentor during timetabled classes, and also engages with a trusted adult mentor outside of school. Through a series of milestones, challenges, and reflective experiences, students are encouraged to:

  • Engage in honest and meaningful conversations
  • Confront personal and collective challenges
  • Reflect on their identity and values
  • Grow into ‘The Man They Want To Be’

The program recognises the significant emotional, social, and physical development that occurs in Year 10. It provides a space for students to reflect on their journey so far, set goals for the future, and prepare for the transition into Senior School.

By encouraging young men to live simply and make a difference, The Rite Journey serves as a powerful and symbolic step into adulthood and life beyond school.

In the spirit of reconciliation, St Edmund’s College acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
