Talented Athletes Program

St Edmund’s believes in a holistic education, and sport plays a significant role in the life of our boys.

At St Edmund’s, we provide opportunities for students to grow physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. For those at the top of their sport, we also recognise the need to balance their sporting commitments with other aspects of life.

To support this, the Talented Athletes Program (TAP) was established in 2021. TAP assists young sportsmen to pursue their sporting goals while maintaining balance with their academic, social, and personal development. We understand the demands placed on talented athletes, and TAP provides a structured response to help them thrive both on and off the field.

Open to identified students in Years 7 - 12, TAP provides:

  • Targeted training and load monitoring
  • Strength and conditioning programs
  • Nutrition guidance
  • Time management education
  • Wellbeing and mentoring support

Importantly, the program is not sport-specific. Instead, it focuses on developing core athletic qualities — including speed, strength, agility, flexibility, plyometrics, core stability, and aerobic capacity — which are vital across all sports.

TAP also utilises an Athlete Monitoring App and regular mentor meetings to ensure ongoing support and guidance. The program currently supports student athletes across a wide variety of sports, including Australian Rules, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Swimming, Tennis, Cross Country, and more.

TAP is not an excellence program focused on technical skills in one sport. Rather, it prioritises overall athletic development and holistic support, helping boys grow as athletes and as young men — physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally.

In the spirit of reconciliation, St Edmund’s College acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
