Building Brighter Futures Parent Workshops

Mar 4, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:45 PM
St Edmund's College

At St Edmund’s College, we are fortunate to have educators with expertise and passions across different fields and interests, and many with a particular interest in the junior and middle school years (Years 5 to 9).

With academic success, physical and mental wellbeing, and spiritual growth being at the centre of what we do, we understand the importance of a holistic approach to schooling.

We warmly invite you to our Building Brighter Futures Parent Information Workshops to take part in two workshops that will allow you to take a more active role in your son’s education and how working in partnership with St Edmund’s will prepare your son for a brighter future.

Upon registering for this event, please select the TWO workshops you would like to attend. Each workshop will last 25 minutes.

WORKSHOPS

1. Guide to EDE: This session will provide you with the knowledge of how to use both EDE and TASS to help your son succeed at Eddies. Areas covered will allow you to follow how your son is progressing, see what work he has due, work completed in tasks, his grade and feedback on drafts and final submissions. It will therefore provide you with the information needed to help your son be organised and improve. We will also examine how this system will help you communicate with the school.

2. TrackOne - Understanding Student Progress: This workshop introduces parents to TrackOne, our school’s data management system. You’ll learn how to access and interpret your son’s academic results, track progress over time, and identify strengths and areas for improvement. Gain practical skills to stay informed, support learning conversations at home, and work in partnership with the school to support your son’s success.

3. Introduction to AI: Curious about artificial intelligence and how it impacts your son’s learning and future? This workshop introduces parents to artificial intelligence, its role in education, and its impact on their future. We’ll explore real-world applications, ethical considerations, and practical ways to support students in an AI-driven world. No technical background is needed—just a curiosity to learn.

4. Pathways - Importance of the Middle Years (Recommended for Years 7-9 parents) : The middle years of schooling lay the foundation for the senior years.  It’s not too early for students to start considering their pathway through school and beyond. In this session, you will gain an understanding of Transferable Skills and how they are applicable in the ever-evolving workplace.

5. Keeping safe online-Managing screen time and online safety: Understanding the connected world of kids and teens can be challenging for parents because adults don’t communicate online in the same way and are not necessarily using the same social media. Even more challenging is the reality that there’s always something new coming around the corner. This workshop is designed to help parents better understand how their sons are using social media and to provide them with tips and tools they can use to help them minimise negative experiences and maximise the positive opportunities that social media has to offer.

6. Time Management - Developing a homework culture at home: Want to make homework a positive and productive routine? This workshop helps parents create a supportive learning environment at home using IXL, an interactive online platform. Learn strategies to build good study habits, set achievable goals, and keep your son motivated. We’ll explore how IXL personalises learning, tracks progress and reinforces key skills. Whether your son needs extra support or a challenge, discover how to make homework engaging and stress-free.

7. Developing a Reading culture at home: While some students have a natural affinity towards reading and writing, most need guidance and support in order to develop their literacy skills and develop a love for reading. In this session, you will learn some basic strategies and questioning techniques to help your son become a better reader through examining the different levels of comprehension.

8. Mental Wellbeing - Building resilience: Our counselling team will present information on teenage behaviour, mental health, and resilience. Using simple concepts, we will highlight family success. Assisting parents to do what they do best, help boys with love, care resilience and personal achievement. On completion of this session, you will better understand stress and the change process. Boys do well when they can, families are no different and we all achieve our best when our stress level is low, and we feel encouraged. We will look at block’s teenage development.

9. Building Resilient Kids: An Introduction to The Resilience Project (Recommended for Years 5-7 parents): Introducing The Resilience Project. A program that helps boys develop gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness to build emotional resilience. Designed for new school parents, this session will explore practical strategies to support your son’s well-being, foster a positive mindset, and strengthen their ability to navigate challenges. Learn how the program is integrated into school life and discover ways to reinforce these important skills at home. Equip yourself with the tools to nurture resilience and emotional growth in your son’s everyday life.

10. Service Learning: How volunteering builds empathy, leadership and purpose in students: Facilitated by Harrison Rule,  2026 Ipswich Young Citizen of the Year, this workshop explores the impact of service learning at St Edmund’s. Harrison will share what he gained from his own service learning experiences at Eddies, and how volunteering helped shape his empathy, leadership and sense of purpose. Parents will gain insight into how service learning supports student wellbeing, engagement and meaningful contribution beyond the classroom.
