The staff of the Exceptional Learning Centre, strive to implement the vision of Edmund Rice with a clear commitment to justice.

 

The Centre caters for exceptional learners which include:


1. Students with learning disabilities/difficulties
2. Students with low incidence disabilities
3. Gifted and Talented Students
4. Students from non-English speaking backgrounds
5. International Students

 

Every student at our college has the right to an appropriate education to enable him to attain success in learning.

Students with exceptional needs are identified in a variety of ways:-

  • Formal & informal testing including teacher referral & parent referral
  • Student self-nomination
  • School identification through achievement & term/semester reports
  • Full assessment in learning disabilities including Dyslexia

JUNIOR SCHOOL SUPPORT

 

 

The College also operates Adjustment classes for Yr 8 Core, Foundation classes in Yr 8, Yr 9 & Yr 10 Maths and Specialist Classes in Yr 9 & Yr 10 English and Religion. In these classes, students are provided with smaller class numbers and supportive staff who provide appropriate adjustment designed to enhance student learning.

 

SENIOR SCHOOL SUPPORT
Our senior school support operates through negotiation with class teachers, combining in-class support and/or tutorials to assist identified students with assessment items and provide support in specific subject areas, such as Mathematics and English.

 

GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS


St Edmund’s College is committed to academically challenging Gifted and Talented students. The school has in place a number of proactive programs designed to cater for their varying needs and through the ELC, provides assessment to identify such students.

 

The College conducts activities for Gifted & Talented Students across all year activities including: Tournament of the Minds, Night of the Notables, Maths competitions, and College Mentoring Programs.
