Careers Officers
St Edmund’s offers a comprehensive Careers Guidance Service. There is a well structured Career Education Program for students, as well as individual and group counselling for students and their parents. This involves exploration of the range of options available and possible pathways on life’s journey, as well as how to access or create opportunities.
During Years 8 and 9, students complete a Career and Transitions program which includes work and activities dealing with topics such as owning and exploring, goal setting, decision-making, work exploration, time management and planning for the future. Year 10 students undertake a full term of Career Education, preparing them for the transition from Year 10 to the senior school, learning and implementing pathways into the workforce through practical interview preparation and training, examining qualifications and personal qualities needed for a broad range of interests, how to put plans into action and accessing a range of Computer-assisted Careers Guidance programs. This culminates in the preparation of their Senior Education and Training Plan.
Year 11 and 12 students are assisted in determining the processes and procedures for Tertiary applications, obtaining apprenticeships or entry to the workforce. Every assistance is offered to ensure our students are well prepared for their post-school goals, both short and long term. Many outside organisations come to the College to participate in this task e.g. Universities, TAFE, the Defence Force, and employer organisations. Also at the end of the year when results are obtained and action needs to be taken in regard to University and TAFE applications and Apprenticeship opportunities the Careers office is staffed so that students and their parents can access personal assistance and advice to help at this pivotal decision-making time. We are always trying to achieve the best for our students’ future planning.
Appointments can be made by students and / or parents both during and after school to discuss any issues which might arise as our students progress through the College.
