What
is Skool 2 Skoolies?
On 16 November 2007 a group of
about twenty St Edmund’s students and 4 staff plan to
ride from the College to the Gold Coast. As well as the riders,
there are also students acting as support, back up in vehicles,
in promotion of the event, and in obtaining sponsorship for
the riders.
Why Skool 2 Skoolies?
You would be aware of Schoolies Week and the bad publicity that
surrounds it, to do with some over-the-top behaviour, particularly
at the Gold Coast. A very large proportion of Year 12s take
part in Schoolies Week and we wanted to use this for some good
rather than bad. But most importantly we wanted to work.
Why should you support the project?
We think that this is a good project to support because it makes
a statement about young people not only enjoying themselves
at the end of twelve years’ schooling, but also doing
so in a healthy, safe way and in a way which will contribute
to society through donations to charity.
It is presenting the youth of Ipswich in a very positive light
and we believe it will attract a lot of community interest and
media attention. We feel that as a business person in the local
community, that these are aims that you would share and like
to support.
Where is the money going?
Each year, St Edmund’s identifies a number of projects
at local, national and international level which we support
through our fund-raising.
Internationally our efforts are directed towards the Christian
Brothers’ work in East Timor, where the Brothers
are providing solar powered lighting for houses in mountain
villages, to enable other people to set up a separate income
from subsistence farming.
Ipswich Hospice is a sick bed health care facility
providing palliative care for the people of Ipswich and surrounding
areas. It is a non-profit, non-denominational, community owned
organisation, built and run by the community to care for terminally
ill people and their family and friends. There is no set fee
for guests and the organisation receives limited government
funding.
The Make A Wish Foundation attempts to bring magic
and joy to children with a life-threatening illness by granting
their most cherished wishes.
How can you help us?
Any donation you can make towards our fund would be gratefully
accepted, however, we have established some classes of tax deductable
sponsors.
The first is a Platinum sponsorship of $500
or more; Gold - $200 or more, Silver
- $100 or more (plus gst). We will acknowledge all
our sponsors in the College newsletters and website and our
Platinum and Gold sponsors will be listed on signage that will
accompany the riders.
Sponsors can also offer services such as: providing signs for
our use during the ride, sponsoring jerseys and publicity. For
further information please email the co-ordinator by clicking
